Sun flares can ruin a fine shot.  A prism of light that barely enters the edge of your frame can detract or add to your composition. Depending on the subject matter, a ‘fan of light’ can be utilized to enhance the feeling of your shot. Just as some people choose to use a  ‘soft focus’ for effect, a ‘sun flare’ can be enriching or embellishing.
