Brilliant sunlight and clear skies, hide architectural genius in plain sight, at-a-distance.  Before you reach the 7000 ft mesa top, you come to dwellings sculpted into the cliff face.  Living above the desert floor, these cliff-dwellers recorded their history and left us their art in pictographs and petroglyphs.  Using sturdy ladders and carved steps, a series of rooms and caves dating from 1200 AD, allow a glimpse at ancient penthouse living.

  1. Brilliant colors and skies indeed! Makes you wonder, how they lived like this. And why. Lovely image.
